In a wide-ranging presentation, one often drawing direct experience, Victor Wallis introduces his audience to Social Practice: Histories and Theories. Wallis's methodical study of Marxism is brought into dialogue with his support for the Cuban revolution, work with political prisoners, activities as a teacher, life in Chile in the Unidad Popular period, commitments to the environment, contributions to the Historisch-kritisches Wörterbuch des Marxismus (Historical-Critical Dictionary of Marxism), and labor as an editor. This dialectic between theory and experience yields Socialist Practice as a book and project that rejects the unnecessary dichotomizations that often afflict movements - identity versus class, organization versus spontaneity, prefiguration versus transformation.
