Piet den Blanken’s photographs of migrant workers and asylum seekers show the reality behind the European Union’s bogus internationalism. The situation for would-be migrants has deteriorated significantly since these photos were taken, and in particular since uprisings and destabilisation in the Middle East and North Africa increased the flow of people trying to flee to Europe. These pictures are from an exhibition staged at the European Parliament in Brussels in September 2010, which subsequently toured the Netherlands. They are printed here with the permission of the photographer.
