Downsizing Flint, Michigan

They’re downsizing Flint
bulldozing the living houses
leftover voices of families

Emergency trees will be carried
on stretcher-trailers
and speared into the ground.
Makeshift parks will supplant
children’s shouts bouncing off
backyard fences

Can stick branches grow flesh?
Bear leaves of skin?
Will the lost ones cut themselves
into bark like initials? Except
these will be faces, puzzled,
their griefs engraved
into Nature, the transplant,
rejecting its graveyard.
